I'm Dave Mantle.
Triathlon and endurance sport have given me so much over the years, and my appreciation for it only continues to grow. While race results, training data, and performance goals are important, I’ve come to realise that the most meaningful part of this journey is often the connection we build with others along the way. The laughs on long rides, the encouragement when things get tough, and the shared sense of achievement are what make this sport truly special.
Being part of a community that supports, motivates, and inspires each other is what has kept me involved for so long. As a coach, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone — whether they’re just starting out or already experienced — discover their potential, gain confidence, and become part of a like-minded community. I’m genuinely invested in your progress and will be every bit as committed and ambitious about your journey as I am about my own.
How did I get here?
Based in Chiswick, West London, I’ve been involved in endurance sports for around 30 years — racing everything from local 5Ks to Ironman World Championships and ultra-endurance events like the Marathon des Sables. My journey into sport didn’t start with structured training or clubs, but with BMX racing, cross-country runs, and chasing anything that felt like a challenge.
I ran my first marathon in 1998 and completed my first Ironman in 2006, piecing together a bike from eBay parts and getting hooked on the process from day one. Over the years I’ve developed from a self-taught athlete into a competitive age-grouper, guided by some of the UK’s leading triathlon coaches.
Outside of sport, I have a long career as a dentist and practice owner, so I understand first-hand how hard it can be to balance training with work and family life. That’s why I’m passionate about helping athletes train smarter, enjoy the process, and get the most out of the time they have.
Coaching philosophy
My approach to coaching is all about keeping things smart, sustainable, and focused on the long game. I use data to guide the process, but I never lose sight of the person behind the numbers. Training should fit into your life, not take it over, and the goal is always to build fitness in a way that challenges you without pushing you past your limits.
Rather than just training harder for the sake of it, we focus on purposeful sessions, good technique, and understanding what your body is telling you. I believe progress comes from consistency, patience, and getting the details right — not from burning yourself out.
Together, we’ll build confidence, develop smarter habits, and create a plan that moves you steadily towards your goals, while still enjoying the journey along the way.
